Substrate Soil as a nutrient substances is a long-acting depot in Substrate Soil  provide embedded and magnificent and healthy growth of your aquarium plants. It consists of clay and peat, which is introduced together with the aquarium gravel in the refurbishment of the aquarium in the substrate. The slow release of nutrients from clay and peat at the roots of aquatic plants, avoid that they are not over-fertilized. At the same time nutrients from the water are bound  in the soil surface. If nutrients are bound from the water, it reduces the risk of unwanted algae growth.

If you set up your new aquarium, you distribute the substrate in a 1 cm thick layer on the bottom of the aquarium. In the table (see picture), the current standard size aquariums are given. There you can read the recommended amounts for the substrate.

Then put on the substrate at least 3-4 cm of gravel. The gravel acts as a barrier between the substrate and concentrated fertilizer to the aquarium water. When planting the aquarium with aquarium plants, as usual, they will be planted into the gravel, where they quickly form new roots in the substrate. Make sure, that when you plant the substrate stir little as possible to prevent the mixing of clay and sphagnum with the water.
